Belcan TechServices is currently recruiting for a Gaithersburg, MD client who has an immediate need for a NOC Operator, Tier 1. This is a direct hire opportunity. GENERAL DESCRIPTION - 1-2 years commercial experience in a Network Operations Center, ISP environment - Knowledge of CISCO routers and switches and VSAT network operations - Knowledge of layer data communications protocols - Ability to verify that switches and routers as well as their configured network services and protocols, operate as intended within a given network specification. - Previous experience with tools used in monitoring the network including iHeat and NetVigil - Must have the ability to trouble shoot network problems effectively in a network operations environment - Maintain a broad knowledge of all products, service and NOC procedures - Strong interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written - Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, prioritizing and teamwork skills - Ability to work independently with little supervision - Ability to qualify for security clearance - This position will require shift work to include nights, weekends and holidays 24x7x365. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Monitor data communications networks to ensure that networks are available to all system users. - Document and resolve data communications problems. - Develop and follow troubleshooting procedures in an effort to resolve problems. - Contacts users to correct and maintain network operations. -Escalate problems as needed to engineering staff. -Records daily network statistics. -Open, update, and close trouble tickets. -Update documentation to record new equipment installed, new sites, and changes to configurations. -Coordinate installation of communications equipment. -May install communications equipment. -Some travel (including international) may be required. Travel expected to be less than 5%. -Other duties as assigned EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS - 1-2 Year experience with Satellite - Experience with terrestrial circuits desired - AA Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics - Military or related Technical Training - Knowledge of Spanish or French desirable Security Clearance required
