Position Summary Under general supervision, supports senior technical
personnel and project managers in the planning and execution of technical
activities on moderately complex projects related to system and technical
product development. Develops and applies fundamental mathematics,
mathematical or statistical theory to collect, organize, interpret and
summarize numerical data to provide usable information, solve or direct
solutions to problems. Duties and Responsibilities Applies basic mathematical
theories and statistical methods to the solution of practical problems.
Analyzes and interprets statistical data in order to identify significant
differences in relationships among sources of information. Performs
computations, applies methods of numerical analysis and sampling techniques or
utilizes complete enumeration bases to data. Develops moderately complex
mathematical or statistical models of phenomena to be used for analysis or
computational simulation. Assembles sets of assumptions, explores the
consequences of each set and addresses the relationships of quantities,
magnitudes, and forms through the use of numbers and symbols. Participates in
research projects that apply valid scientific techniques and utilize
information obtained from baselines or historical data in order to structure
analyses to determine limitations in terms of reliability or usability and any
factors that could affect the results. Plans data collection for projects of
limited complexity and determines the types/sizes of sample groups to use.
Tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods.
Prepares data for processing by organizing information, checking for
inaccuracies and adjusting and weighting the raw data. Processes data for
statistical modeling and graphic analysis. Reports results of statistical
analyses in the form of graphs, charts, and tables. Provides guidance to less
experienced Mathematicians. Education and Experience Bachelor¿s degree in
Mathematics, Statistics or in area of specialty plus 2 to 4 years relevant
work experience. Master¿s degree preferred. In some cases, educational
requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years applicable work
experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge
or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or
labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data. Knowledge, Skills
and Experience Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent
communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Proficient in Microsoft
Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. JITC & ATEC experience preferred.
